Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
