Government Official Says MoD Examining Security Risk from Vehicles from China, with Staff Instructed to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

A defense minister has stated that the MoD is currently investigating the potential threats associated with Chinese-made cars, and personnel have been advised to refrain from talking about classified information in all cars.

Security Guidance for MoD Staff

During a recently aired appearance on a radio station, a defence minister addressed reports that MoD staff have been told not to talk about secret material while riding in Chinese cars.

The minister explained that the MoD is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, however emphasised that security is a issue in every contemporary vehicles.

We have a collection of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a very small number.
But regardless of if you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, our instruction to our staff is not to plug MoD technology into their car, to avoid having conversations at a secret classification in any vehicle, because of the increasing risks of surveillance that are present in every single automobile, to only have those confidential talks in protected areas. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for everyone concerned about safety.

After it was suggested that it would be wise for the MoD to stop using every Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: That is precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Defence Background

The revelation comes as reports from Norway and Denmark have warned the UK to the presence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could allow the Chinese government to disable public transport and cause chaos to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship has been shining laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” act by defence officials.

The broader security situation underscores the importance of robust measures and caution in all aspects of official operations, from vehicle use to communication practices.
